How long for cat urinary crystals to dissolve? Is pink pee normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 9 months old | 11 lbs

Hi there my 2.5 year old tabby cat was taken to the vet about 4 weeks ago with having a hard time peeing and blood on/off .He was diagnosed with urinary crystals and was on antibiotics for 2-3 weeks to prevent infection. And put on royal canin so food . And I increased his fluid a lot. He is peeing good now but on/off will have some pale pink urine . He seems fine but I wondered how low it takes for the crystals to disssolve? Will he have pink occasionally until they dissolve.

It can take 6-8 weeks for crystals to dissolve depending on how many there are. But He could have developed another infection while waiting for the crystals to dissolve. Just know depending on the type of crystals they may never completely dissolve. Also make sure your vet took an X-ray or did an ultrasound to ensure there a no stones in there that may need to be surgically removed. I would recommend to take him back to the vet for another urinalysis to ensure there is no bacteria present. If it is just inflammation, you may consider adding in cosequin for cats. This has been proven to increase the mucus lining of the bladder and therefore decrease inflammation. I hope this helps!
