Why is my guinea pig itching his face with a spot under eye? Ringworm?

Pet's info: Exotic | Unknown - Exotic | Male | 2 months and 10 days old | 0.8 lbs

He is itching his face a lot and has a small spot under his eye. I don't know if that's from scratching a lot or if he has ringworm. My vet said they itch as young ones and he's fine. I disagree and want to fix my guinea pig up ASAP

IT could be ringworm as it is very common in guinea pigs especially around the eyes. you should bring him back to the vet , there is a simple test for ringworm, if it comes back positive treatment should be started immediately.

    It could be mites but it could also be ringworm. You will need to have Ginny examined by a vet in person in order to get a diagnosis. You need to be careful using medications near the eye so it is best to know what you are treating and what would be the appropriate treatment.

Fungal infections can take weeks to months to resolve. Ideally, Obey should be physically examined by your veterinarian for a definitive diagnosis. An e-collar (cone) should be placed on him to prevent scratching.

Can INDOOR guinea pigs get ringworm? How?
Hi there! As ringworm is a fungus, they can contract it from other guinea pigs, from humans, or from contaminated objects, such as bedding. Symptoms of ringworm in guinea pigs are usually bald spots around the ears, neck, and face that can spread along the rest of the body. They can also have crusty, flaky lesions in the middle. If you suspect that your guinea pig has ringworm, I strongly suggest taking preventative measures when handling him or her - good handwashing is essential as ringworm can be transmitted to humans. A visit to the vet is also in order - they will likely take a small sample of your GP's hair to culture for the fungus. They may also use a type of black light called a Woods lamp to examine his or her skin as the ringworm fungus usually fluoresces. If your GP does have ringworm, the vet will likely prescribe a topical or oral antifungal, or a combination of the two. These lesions both appear to be fungal lesions (ringworm) and a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan. Our guinea pig has a raw spot above her nose and a new one above her eye this morning, looks like mites. Cage is cleaned twice a week and she’s eating and drinking normal. We got her from the pet store 12 days ago.

Hi I just got this guinea pig and I'm worried he has ringworm, or something is wrong with him cause he has a massive area behind his ear hair lose, very shy and skiddish.....he's new so I don't want to bother him so much cause I want him to get used
I would recommend bringing him in for a skin scraping to identify if this is a mite or ringworm. If you personally develop circular lesions then it is more likely that it is ringworm, and not a mite. Selamectin is a great treatment for common mites and parasites.

My Guinea pig is losing fur above his nose
Hello! this is most likely a ringworm infection (fungal infection), but there are other possibility such as an upper respiratory infection or a mite infestation. i recommend taking him to your vet tomorrow in order to get it checked and treated.

My guinea pig has started to lose hair underneath and on his front legs, he also has a sore patch on his back and some dandruff. We have tried ivermectin but no improvements.
Guinea pigs often get ringworm, so I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian and discuss testing and possibly treating for ringworm. This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment (advocate or advantage), then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Mites or ring worm are still my top differentials. Sometimes when mites are dying after an injection they do seem to be a bit itchier. I assume your veterinarian has you coming back for a follow up injection? In my patients who have been similar to Minnie some have benefited from a steroid injection and some antibiotics while the mite therapy is taking affect. Hi, my guniea pig has been scratching himself alot for 2 days now, ever since I've gotten him back from my guniea pig sitter. Now, he has been scratching himself more often, sometimes all over.
Hi, he could have mites. I would suggest your ring your local vets to have him checked over and if anything else is excluded you could treat him with drops on the back of the neck for mites. Hope this helps !
