Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 9 years and 8 months old | 83 lbs

My 9 yr old lab has had 3 bouts of diarrhea in 1- 1/2 months. The 1sttime he was give antibiotics & a paste w/probiotics. The 2nd time just the paste w/probiotic. He now has it again. He was switched to Purina Vet Formula EN. While his stools firm up the diarrhea returns within 1-2 weeks after treatment.

I would wonder if Shadow is developing some sort of food allergy or perhaps inflammatory bowel disease. I would recommend to talk to Shadow's doctor about a food trial for Shadow. This would be the best way to know if the diarrhea is related to food. I would also recommend to supplement him with probiotics more frequently as this helps to maintain a good GI flora. The doctor may also want to check blood values and maybe even an x-ray to rule out other causes of chronic diarrhea.
