My cat got Sevin dust on him. Did I poison him? What do I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 17 days old | 6 lbs

I was told Sevins dust was safe but when I sprinkled it on my cat he acted as if it was burning him alive, then last night he started vomiting and not eating/drinking. He also meows like his is in a lot of pain. I saw him licking his paws and I am afraid that I poisoned my cat. I am very concerned and hope to see an answer from you. It would be greatly appreciated.

Sevin dust contains a carbamate and can be toxic to pets. It should not be applied topically. Your kitty should be bathed with dawn dish soap to remove any residue and should see a vet right away for treatment. No pesticide should be used on an animal without the okay of your veterinarian. If you get the go-ahead, a small amount should be sprinkled into your hands (wear latex gloves) and then rubbed into the cat's coat. When you just sprinkle it directly onto the cat you may use too much, and also it is right on top for the cat to lick off. That could cause a problem. Please try to find your cat and bring it to the veterinarian to see if it has any ill effects from this product.
