Old rabbit's leg sore worsening. Is a cone enough or vet needed?

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | neutered | 12 years and 2 months old

Hi there just looking for some advice. My 12year old rabbit is on meloxicam and septrin suspension..He had a swollen back leg which had a small sore on top of his toes ..the swelling has gone but sore has got worse looking ..i have been cleaning the would with chlorhexidine sol and applying sudocrem...i have put a cone on his head now so he can't lick at it anymore...he has an appointment back with the the vet in 3weeks..am I doing the right thing putting the cone on? or should he be seen sooner

Hi there! Poor Junior! If the wound is getting worse instead of better definitely call in to be seen sooner-as soon as possible would be ideal. Keeping the cone on is a wonderful idea as long as he can eat and drink around it. Depending on the source of his wound-it may be a foreign body that has migrated or a resistant infection. It sounds like you're doing everything right!
