My dog has a skin spot that disappears and reappears. Is it ringworm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 9 months and 3 days old | 15 lbs

Wondering if my dog has ringworm? This is the only spot this seems to appear on, and it comes and goes. It'll clear in about 3 days and come back weeks later. Sometimes it starts off really small and then gets bigger.

It could be ringworm but it could also be some other fungal or bacterial infection, you need to take him to the vet in order to have it checked and diagnose, if it is ringworm he will need an anti fungal treatment for 3 weeks.

That could be ringworm but it also looks like an abrasion/traumatic irritation as well as a bacterial infection. If it has not gotten better with keeping it clean and dry within 1-3 days it should get checked out by a veterinarian. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling the area as ringworm can be contagious to people

It looks like a skin injury, it could also be an infection of the skin, skin mites, a bit wound (if there are others in the same cage). basically this needs to be checked by a vet and treated accordingly (most likely with antibiotics to start with).
