how are you happy 4th ! I have a dog question for you . the vet isn't open and I'm so nervous for my dog I think he has the beginning stages of kennel cough ! Out of no where he just started coughing a lot like he is choking on something and it seems to happen when he's excited it's like he has a coughing fit then he's fine after ... do you know if I can give him something over the counter like cough syrup maybe ?! Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 7 months old | 41 lbs

I would be really careful with human cough syrups as some ingredients can be toxic to dogs. It certainly sounds like it could be a kennel cough infection. Before you can get to the vet I would recommend making a home cough syrup of warm honey and lemon to soothe the throat. It is less risky than human cough bottle.
