My dog has hind leg paralysis. Are these signs of regaining feeling?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund miniature | Male | neutered | 4 years and 11 months old | 13 lbs

Less than 48 hours ruptured disk. On gabepentin and meloxicam and strict cage rest. Sudden hind leg paralysis. He can wag his tail and yesterday scratched at his side with his foot, purposefully. Today he's biting at fleas on his hind foot (like normal). Would it be safe to say he's regaining some feeling?

It certainly sounds like Winston is going the right way. It will be a long road though, and although this is very promising you must keep him really strictly rested especially as feeling comes back. The excitement of being able to use his legs could damage his back further. I'm so glad he is improving though!!
