My feral cat has neck hair loss. Can I give flea medicine in food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Colorpoint Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 6 months old | 9 lbs

I got feral cat fixed, Vet didn't vaccinate, now it's difficult to catch, noticed hair loss on its neck, he's Ok with me feeding it but that's all the contact I'm allowed, sadly we (cat and I) still have scars when I got it to be fixed, is it anything I can put on its food? I see another unfriendly stray cat with condition such as the pictures and it breaks my heart. Won't be able to coax with cat trap, that's reason I got scars

I would think the scabs are most likely due to itching secondary to fleas. I would recommend applying a flea prevention every 30 days to all stay cats if you can. If you really cannot catch them I would try to spray the environment with pet friendly flea killer. It can be very hard to manage fleas in outdoor animals
