My dog is still whining after surgery. Can I adjust her pain meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | 7 years and 7 months old | 80 lbs

My 80 lb dog had a growth removed and a tooth extracted yesterday. They gave me metacam for pain at 80# once a day. She is still whining...can I give her 40# 2× a day to stretch out the pain meds?

That won't be effective as dosage will be too low and won't work well twice daily. I would recommend to ask to you local veterinarian for another medication (tramadol could be an option for example). Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.
