Why is my conure limping after an accident but now improving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | 18 years and 1 month old | 0 lbs

My dusky conure is favoring one foot with some difficulty moving around, limping, this just noticed before bedtime the other evening. This morning showed signs of improvement. My conure is eating and drinking water as normal, his fecal droppings are normal, both bottoms of feet look good, no visual bruising. I do remember him flying toward his cage and landing rather abruptly onto the side, could he have a soft tissue bruise on upper leg from incident?

Poor JD! It's possible he may have injured the leg, and is now recovering. If he is continuing to improve, keeping an eye on it is best. However, if you see a worsening of symptoms, the improvement stops, visible deformity or bruising, or swelling appears, then bringing him to your local avian vet for a complete exam is best.
