My 5-month Lab puppy bites and jumps. Is it time to neuter him?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 3 days old | 63 lbs

We have a black lab 5-1/2 mo. He has surges of energy that involve biting and jumping at people, then he's calm. He's teething but is it time to be neutered?

Getting him neutered will help with some of the behavior but training will be needed also. Discourage him from jumping by keeping him on a leash and pulling him back every time he does it. When he bites tell him no and give him something acceptable to chew on instead like a toy or bone. Consistency is the key with behavior.
