My cat walks into things, seems blind, but vets say he's fine. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

His third eye shows, sometimes he shows signs of being blind, then not being blind. Sometimes his eyes widen at light, sometimes they slit. He's been to a vet twice (two different vets from different clinics) and they say he's fine, but I don't know, he's known to walk into things, and he's quite fat. Is he fine? Or should I take him to another vet, in another town, or something? He's currently missing (been a week and a half) so I have no pics,..

Hi there. Just walking into things and blindness that comes and goes seems a bit odd to me. I think perhaps I would call a specialist if this continues. If he has inappropriate pupillary response to light as you've mentioned there may be something else going on neurologically that does not always present at the time of the exam for the veterinarian performing them. A consult with a neurologist could help you quite a bit, and they may be able to localize the lesion specifically. I hope this helps! My best to you and Leo!
