My 7 pound dog ate an unknown amount of sand from my child's sandbox. He vomited up sand and has been drinking water and vomiting that up too. He has not eaten, but did have diarrhea. It looked dark brown, sandy, and a little pink. His gums look normal.

Sand can cause issues in the G.I. tract including information and potentially an obstruction/blockage. I recommend Tucker be examined by a veterinarian and likely an x-ray done. This is because if he does have an obstruction he will need surgery to remove the sand. If the x-ray looks good did it may be putting him on a bland diet and giving extra fluids will help him get better.

Poor Rudy. I don't like that he's eaten a bunch of sand and is now vomiting. This could be causing an obstruction, which I cannot rule out without seeing him in person. I would take him into a vet now.
