My dog has recurring facial abscesses. Could it be an allergy?

Hi. I have a neapolotin lab mix puppy, 1 year old. For the last 6 to 8 months, he has been getting abscesses that are usually filled with pus and blood. He gets them on his face. He has been to his vet several times and antibiotics do the trick. Could this be an allergy to dirt? I found one under his eye several weeks ago and last week he got 3 or 4 more. He's scheduled to see his vet again on Friday. Thanks.

Poor Sarge! Yes, it's certainly possible that this could be an allergy to something in the environment such as dirt, grass, or pollen. He could also have a food allergy, or a recurring bacterial or fungal skin infection. Since this has been a recurring issue, I would recommend asking your veterinarian about the next recommended steps from here to try and get a better handle on this problem - Sarge may need some allergy testing, a skin scrape or culture, or other testing in order to help determine what is causing this so that it can be treated more effectively.
