My dog has blood in her urine. What's causing it and what to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Female | spayed | | 18 lbs

Can blood in the urine with my dog be caused by an injury she received? The blood in the urine is a recurring problem. She is currently taking Urinary Gold by Pet Wellbeing. It's been 2 to 3 weeks and can't really tell if there's any improvement l. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yes, blood in the urine could be caused by an injury but it can also be caused by a UTI, leptospirosis, something toxic, a bleeding disorder, or bladder stones. Lovey Dovey really needs to see a vet today for this, especially since it's been going on for two to three weeks. When there is blood in the urine, it should never be treated at home, the dog should see the vet as soon as possible. The vet can do a physical exam, routine blood tests, and urinalysis to diagnose what is causing the blood in her urine. Once the cause is found, the vet can prescribe treatment for her.
