My 8-month-old dog leaks pee and has accidents. Is it behavioral?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Female | spayed | 8 months and 3 days old | 45 lbs

Hi, my dog is 8 months old and she always has had a problem with pee. She holds like 4-5 hours and sometimes when she really needs to pee she could walk and let drop pee. Sometimes she wet the bed or call me in the night to take her to pee. Her doctor say that is behavior that she has because he run a blood test and everything was ok, but I want to know what do you think.

It's possible that Frida could have an underlying issue such as a bladder infection or bladder stones. If you haven't already, additional tests such as an ultrasound of the bladder or a urinalysis may clue you into the issue. If she's spayed, she may also have some incontinence issues as the muscles around the urethra may become weakened or unable to prevent leakage. If she checks out healthy, then looking into reverting back to an earlier stage of puppy potty training, or taking her out more often to give her a chance to fully empty her bladder may help.
