Why is my dog's skin healing slowly despite medicated baths?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 50 lbs

Skin problems: scratches & nibbles random spots on his back & bottom. We give him medicated baths; started using a antiseptic spray & he gets a high protein diet (Blue Buffalo's Wilderness dry food) with tbs of yogurt & pumpkin. It helped his appetite & he loves it. Kojo is healing slow and his stool is good with the new regimen..

Hi there. Poor Kojo! It sounds like you're headed in the right direction for recovery though. Healing slowly is normal when you're tackling a chronic skin condition as it seems you are. If your pup is making progress and seems to love his new diet, I encourage you to keep doing exactly what you're doing, and just wait it out. I know it's frustrating and time consuming waiting for a good result-but it sounds like you're a good pup parent, and I commend you. Hang tough and you should continue to see more slow improvements!
