Dog licking, biting, and scooting: Is it allergies or something else?

Pet's info: Dog | Jack Russell Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 6.8 lbs

My dog keeps licking and biting her self. She also scratchs her bum on the floor

this is likely due to an allergy whether it be fleas or environmental. A good bath will help. When you take her to your vet that can check her skin. They may also check her stool sample for parasites and her anal glands to make sure they are not impacted to cause the scooting on the floor.

    The most common cause of scooting is from allergies. In humans, our eyes and noses get itchy, but in dogs their anus and feet get itchy! Her skin looks irritated in the picture, but it doesn't appear severe. I think it can wait a few days for you to contact the foster group to come up with a good plan. You can try applying a hydrocortisone cream for some relief.

    Ringworm, bacterial infection, yeast infection, and anal sacculitis are all issues that can cause itching and scooting. Unfortunate they all can look similar to the naked eye and sometimes testing is needed to identify the problem. I would highly encourage you to have Rosie examined by your veterinarian and help you devise a treatment plan to increase her comfort level. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
