Puppy worms, inconsistent bloody poop. Is Interceptor enough?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 22 days old | 7 lbs

My puppy's poops have been inconsistent. Sometimes runny or seems to have a hard time going and there's a tiny bit of blood in the poop and other times looks absolutely fine. Last night I got up at 3:30 to let him out and then at 5:15 he was crying again so I let him cry and did not get up. He pooped in his cage. The poop was ok but I found a little worm crawling beside the poop. I had interceptor medication at home from last vet visit. I gave 2nd dose today-2 days early. Will this work??

Interceptor does treat some intestinal parasites such as roundworms and hookworms, so it's possible that this may resolve the problem. If you don't see any improvement in his stool in the next 2-3 days, it would be best to take a fecal sample to your vet for testing - some types of intestinal parasites, such as tapeworms or coccidia, are not covered by Interceptor and would require a separate medication from your vet to treat.
