My puppy was bitten by a dog. How to treat his minor face cuts?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Bloodhound | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 9 days old | 20 lbs

An older dog with no illness got aggressive with my puppy and bit him, small cuts on his face stopped bleeding after a few minutes and he is not acting lethargic or anything. He was able to eat and drink shortly after and went outside with no issues. I just want to make sure everything looks okay.

Ouch, poor Rodeo! The cuts do not look too deep from the picture and I would gently clean them with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the cuts clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then they are infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. http://dogsaholic.com/care/homemade-dog-cone.html
