My rabbits fight through the cage. How can I bond them safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Male | neutered | 11 months old | 5 lbs

hi I recently adopted a 1 year old male neutered rabbit from a family whos dog and the rabbit did not get along. i have a rabbit already at home and the first introduction did not go well they fought so i have kept them separate ever since. but no matter what i do when one is out the male still tries to attack my female rabbit if she goes to close to him when he is in his cage or vice versa. I dont know what to do. should i just try to continue with the bonding process?

I would highly recommend making sure the female rabbit is spayed and male rabbit is neutered. If this does not help/ they already are I recommend separating them by a baby gate/ cage for a month. Than slowly moving them closer together. Some rabbits will not pair bond but usually it is a very slow process. You can also try taking them to a neutral place ( like a friends house) and see if they get a long better. Sometimes they do become territorial.
