Is my baby at risk for worms from my cat with fleas and weight loss?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 years and 10 months old | 15 lbs

I just noticed my cat has a couple fleas and I'm not sure if he has worms he has lost some weight but I have a two month old and all the vets are already closed for today I washed him with flea shampoo and plan on treating him with the flea treatment I have but should I worry about my son getting worms I'm so scared about his health.

I would not worry about your son getting worms from Panda as long as you wash your hands thoroughly after you scoop his cat litter. Given that your son is two months old, he won't be getting into the litter box on his own. I would take Panda into the vet with a sample of his feces to check that he does have worms, as there are other medical causes behind weight loss in cats, such a diabetes or dental problems. It's important to rule those out with routine blood tests, a urinalysis, and a physical exam. The vet can examine the feces for signs of worms, and can prescribe an appropriate deworming treatment. As for the fleas, first I would give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.
