My cat is constipated. How do I safely express her bladder?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 6 lbs

I need help locating my cats bladder to express. I took in stray that was hit by a car, broken leg pelvis n tail. But not giving up just yet. Vet let me take for the weekend, but I am concerned about expressing. It's getting hard to find bladder cause cat is constipated, I am just sacred I might squeeze the wrong thing, maybe the bladder isn't full cause it's hard to find. Do you have tips or diagram of where to look when colon is full and is there any damage I can do squeezing around, thank

If the bladder is full it can be found in the back third of the belly very low down and yes you could potentially cause injury to bowel and possibly kidneys if you press hard on them. You vet should demonstrate the correct procedure, location and pressure (gentle and patient, not hard, you do not need to squeeze a tight fist but encourage the bladder to open, not burst)
