Safe ear mite treatment for a 3-week-old kitten with hair loss?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

I found a kitten I'm guessing around three weeks old because it doesn't have any teeth. she is infested with ear mites to the point that she is losing hair around her ears.. all of the over the counter ear Mite drops say that the kitten must be 8 weeks old or older so can I use Vitamin E oil and her ears?

You can buy Frontline spray and wipe your kitten with this. Wet a q-tip with the spray and just gently insert it into the kittens ear to wet the ear canal. Do not push it hard, do not twist it and do not try to clean the ear. If this does not work within the next few days, you will need to take your kitten to a vet for ear cleaning and treatment.

Sometimes ear mites can cause infection as they damage the skin. This can lead to over production of ear wax. I would have Toby examined by the vet and they can prescribe drops. Otherwise you could try using a liquid ear cleaner and cotton wool to clean the ears.
