Why is my senior dog pacing, panting, hiding, and crying in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | unneutered | 10 lbs

My dog is about ten yrs old. He has certain days where he will just run around and pace back and fourth & pant . I think he also has hip pain because he walks funny sometimes and cries when I pet him there (sometimes) he's been hiding under my bed for like two weeks. He is still eating, drinking, & going to the bathroom

pacing, crying when touched, hiding, panting are all signs of pretty severe pain. You need to take Willie to your vet for an exam, x-rays, and possibly blood tests to find out why he is in so much pain. Your vet can then assess the condition and prescribe relevant medication to make him feel better, such as pain medicine.

If Flash is crying, he is likely in pain. The panting may also indicate pain. The pain could come from many places but a neck or spine injury is common. Flash needs to be examined by the veterinarian since only a physical exam will begin to narrow down the problem. He can also get medications to help alleviate pain from the veterinarian. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
