My dog ate a grape jelly sandwich. Is grape jelly toxic? What do I do?

Mopsy just stole about half a grape jelly sandwich. I know that grapes are toxic to dogs. What should I do?

Grape jelly doesn't actually have a lot of grapes in it, but it does have a lot of sugar. You may see some GI upset in Mopsy (such as vomiting), and if you do, I would recommend withholding food and then feeding a bland diet. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

If she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

While many grape jams / jellies are filled with primarily sugar and flavoring, some of these products do contain real grapes, which can be quite toxic to dogs if ingested. Stella will likely be fine, especially if she is acting completely normal. However, to establish a baseline, you can always take her to the veterinarian for an examination and have her blood tested to make sure her kidney values are not affected. This will help establish a baseline for the blood values in the event she does develop clinical symptoms. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. My dog drank cranberry grape juice out of a cup about 10 minutes ago. What should we do.
A bit of cranberry grape juice is not likely to cause harm to your dog, unless she drank a whole cup of it. Even if Cam did get a decent amount, not all dogs react to grapes and raisins the same - some don't react at all. We really don't know a whole lot about grape and raisin toxicity except that it can be very dangerous to some dogs. Symptoms to watch for are lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and any urinary symptoms, like decreased output of urine. Usually the first symptom is vomiting - if Cam does vomit, bring her to the vet immediately for treatment. I doubt that this will happen, especially since she ingested a mixed juice (which are usually mostly sugar anyway), but it certainly doesn't hurt to be on alert. Good luck, and I hope Cam stays well!

Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Grapes can be very toxic to dogs. It really depends on how many were eaten though some dogs, can have a toxicity with a small amount of grapes. If this happened within the last hour, your veterinarian could still induce vomiting on Hope to see if you can retrieve the ingested grapes. Grapes can result in kidney failure and this toxicity is very serious. Usually, affected dogs are hospitalized for treatment and very carefully monitored. I recommend you have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Keeping my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Honestly there is no certain quantity that is toxic to dogs. Every dog is different and 1 grape could be toxic to one dog and it could take 100 grapes to cause toxicity to the next. I recommend calling your vet for options to decontaminate Poppy. Oh no, poor Rosie! Grapes are highly toxic to dogs and can cause acute kidney failure, leading to signs of lethargy, vomiting and inappetence. Rosie needs to go to an ER vet immediately, as this could be a life-threatening emergency. The vet will be able to examine her, determine her kidney values on lab testing (CBC, chemistry, urinalysis), and start her on IV fluid therapy with other supportive medications. Good luck!

Help! My 7 month old, 40lb puppy ate a plate of grapes!
Unfortunately, grapes can be very toxic to dogs in any amount. Please get Sully to the closest emergency or 24 hour clinic immediately, so they can get him to vomit. Often, if we can get dogs to vomit the grapes immediately, they don't have any further problems. You are correct that grapes are toxic to dogs. If he ate them within the past two hours, you can take him into your vet now to induce vomiting. If it's been longer than two hours, I would monitor him for signs of grape toxicity. These signs include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy, weakness, abdominal pain, dehydration, passing only a small amount of urine, or not passing any urine at all. If you see any of those signs, you need to take Coco into the vet right away.

The grape ingestion may or may not be related to the current symptoms. In a dog that size, 1 grape should theoretically not cause toxicosis, however, there are dogs that display symptoms after eating very few grapes, so it is not impossible. I recommend being cautious and taking Juno to your veterinarian. They will want to check bloodwork to make sure kidney function does not seem impaired. There are several other possible causes of diarrhea including food intolerance, parasites, viral or bacterial infection, and stress. When you go to your veterinarian, bring a sample of the stool so they can look for parasites. If everything looks okay, you could try a new food with a protein Juno hasn't had before, such as rabbit, venison, or fish. You may also consider adding fiber, which can be done by feeding a couple spoonfuls of canned pumpkin to the meals. Lastly, a probiotic or yogurt can add some healthy bacteria back to the system. My puppy ate half of a red grape about 3 hrs ago. She is acting totally normal but I just saw online that grapes are bad. I really can’t afford taking her to an emergency vet unless it’s absolutely necessary. What should I do?
Unfortunately there is no toxic dosage for grapes and even one can cause very severe side effects. If you cannot take her to your local veterinarian, the only options is to monitor clinical signs and feed her as normally you would do. Possible signs would be increased drinking levels, excessive or no urination at all, vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy and inappetence. Should you notice any of these signs, an immediate check up would be required.
