My dog's lost toenail is healing. Precautions for walking or bathing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Russell Terrier | Male | unneutered | 16 lbs

Jack is on antibiotics Amoxyclav 200mg because one of his toenails (the one that doesn't actually meet the ground when he walks) was loose and he pulled it out himself. There is now a hole where his toenail used to be but it is not bleeding and seems to be managing fine. I was advised by my vet to keep giving him the antibiotics until there are none left, but was not given any instructions as to what I should do once they run out. Should I take any precautions when walking or bathing him?

If it looks like it's healing fine, I wouldn't worry about any precautions when walking or bathing him. Just monitor it, keep it clean, but it should heal just fine if it keeps going the way it is.
