Shepherd dogs often suffer from hip dysplasia which is very painful and can cause the signs you describe. As you live near Mumbai I can recommend a very good veterinarian specialised in orthopedics, You should take Avior to her for an exam and treatment as indicated. Sometimes surgery is needed, but the least he needs is pain medication and antiinflammatory medication. The doctor's name is Dr. Leena Dalal, Green Fields, 134, M Karve Road, Opp Oval Maidan, Churchgate Mumbai Phone: 098 20 001687 I suggest you give her a ring and either make an appointment with her or ask her if she can recommend a veterinarian near you.

Poor Avoir! I'm sorry to hear that he's having joint issues. I would suggest starting a daily glucosamine/chondroitin supplement such as Cosequin or Dasuquin, as well a an omega-3 fatty acid supplement like Welactin - both of these have been shown to help with arthritis in dogs, and can be purchased over the counter or ordered online without a prescription. For anything stronger, you will need a vet exam to get prescription medication - so if after 4-6 weeks on the supplements you still feel that he's having a lot of trouble getting around, I would recommend making a veterinary appointment to discuss other treatment options like Rimadyl or Previcox, tramadol, laser therapy, or acupuncture that may be helpful.

Poor Avior! He does sound like he is in pain, and this may be caused by arthritis or hip dysplasia. Arthritis is common in middle age to older dogs, while hip dysplasia can be common in large breed dogs. I would take Avior into your vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose if he is suffering from arthritis or hip dysplasia using x-rays, and can give him some pain meds for it. Rimadyl (an NSAID) is a good drug to give for joint pain. I also recommend giving him glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate supplements. They provide the necessary nutrients for cartilage repair and function. Use of them helps relieve some of the symptoms of arthritis. You can use the Rimadyl in conjunction with the supplements to give your dog the best possible relief from his symptoms. I would take him into the vet today.
