My 7-month-old cat has bad gas & soft poop. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 7 months and 25 days old

Hi my 7month old cat has had terrible gas now for 2-3 weeks, hes fine in himself and is asking for food, he only eats dry food, he also had a stodgy poo this morning, but the wind is continuous throughout the day and smells like rotten eggs, is this normal or would a trip to the vets be advised? Many thanks

Poor Rodney! You may want to try a probiotic mixed into his food once a day, such as Forti-Flora - this often helps with excessive gas. Another option would be to try a different food, as there may be an ingredient in his current diet that doesn't agree with him - there are companies like Natural Balance and Wellness that make limited ingredient diets that may be a better fit for him. If these things don't help, then it would be a good idea to have him checked by a vet to make sure that nothing else is wrong. Your vet may also recommend a prescription GI diet, or a hypoallergenic diet to see if this is more effective.

This could be something in the food he is allergic to, or maybe he is suffering from a mild gastrointestinal infection, I would recommend taking Rodney to the vet in order to get it checked and treated.
