My dog ate couch stuffing and is coughing. Is it a blockage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | unspayed | 4 months old | 8 lbs

My dog found a tiny hole in the couch and put some fibrous stuffing in her mouth. I saw her do it and removed the stuffing. She fell asleep and keeps waking up and coughing like something is in her throat. What should I do?

Probably she ingested some of the stuffing which irritated her throat. The irritation will go away without any treatment. I would be more worried for the stuffing she ingested. Depending how much of the stuffing you think she ingested a check up would be required as that could potentially cause a gastrointestinal blockage.
