My newly adopted cat is aggressive and scary. What should I do?

I just adopted a 10 yr old cat from a shelter 3 days ago. He's already hissed at me 3 times and he just swiped me with his claw. He will NOT allow me to walk anywhere without screaming, jumping in front of me.... it's SCARY. I'm a prisoner and afraid of him. I want to go to bed but he will stalk me up the stairs again and "bark". Please help me! Sue. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

So sorry that he is exhibiting this behavior. That does sound scary! I think you should call the shelter where you adopted him and give them an update. I am not sure if they have any prior history to know if this is a typical behavior for him or something new but he doesn't sound like a good fit for you. It could be that he is just scared and needs more time to adjust but if he is being aggressive toward you than I am not sure it is a good idea to keep him and he may need to go back to the shelter. Give them a call and discuss the situation with them. I don't want you to get hurt!
