My dog or cat has a cone. Can I remove it for eating and drinking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 years and 5 months old

Please read Jazmin's profile! Took her to the vet & she received antibiotic for wound/sore & a cone on her head. Is it ok to take her cone off at time

The cone should stay on unless Jazmin has trouble eating or drinking. If this happens, it can be removed for mealtimes but should be replaced immediately afterwards. If you see her having trouble on the stairs, carry her up or gently raise her head to clear the steps. She will acclimate to the collar in a day or two.
