Why is my old cat head pressing, pacing, disoriented, and panting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

My cat is pacing, pressing it's head and then suddenly sleeping. Then waking suddenly, panting and when calmed, sleeps again. He is 18.5 years old and seems very disorientated when pacing

I'm sorry that Mimic is sick! Head pressing and acting disoriented are symptoms of a neurologic problem - the panting may be related to discomfort and anxiety, or could indicate that he is having trouble breathing for some reason. These are very concerning symptoms, and I would recommend having Mimic seen by an emergency vet right away. He may need blood work and x-rays to help determine what's wrong. The vet can talk to you about his prognosis and treatment options to help him depending on what is found.
