My cat licked hair remover. Is it dangerous? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

My cat accidentally got, what I'm sure is hair remover, on his back. I washed it off as soon as I noticed it, but he ran away and hid before I could be certain I completely got it off. I can't see the remover anymore, but the smell is still there, and some of his fur came off. I'm still trying my best to get it all off, but I'm scared it's too late, and he already licked some. I gave him water, and he seems fine, but I'm so worried. Please help! What do I do?

Hair removal cream can cause burns to the mouth, esophagus, and stomach. Because Bhaku licked some off, I would take him into the vet now. The vet can examine his mouth for signs of burns, and will likely prescribe him some medication to coat his stomach (a gut protectant) to prevent damage to his stomach. It's best he's seen by a vet now, so I would take him in right away.
