Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed
My cat is about 13 years old. She had another cat she lived with until about 5 years ago who passed away. Since then she keeps pooping or peeing sometimes on the couch even when her two litter boxes are clean and fresh. How can I stop this behaviour and clean the couch so that the smell doesn't attract her back?

Seeing that your kitty is 13 years old, it is a given that Candy has arthritis in her hips and possibly elbows. This makes squatting hard and painful and it is likely that she tries to hold it as long as she can to avoid the pain and then loses the poop or has to go wherever she just is at that moment. Try making a low entrance to her litter boxes or put steps up to the rim, to make it easier for her to go in. Have your kitty checked for arthritis and ask your vet to prescribe pain medication. The smell on the couch may be hard to clean as the pee probably entered the fabric and dribbled inside. Usually an enzymatic cleaner available from your pet shop takes care of that.
