Hi, I noticed some green discharge from one of my dogs eyes. After looking into it further the white part of the eye is red and there are 2 small bumps on the edge of the eyelid. The eye behind the bumps has a relatively large black spot on it. Any idea what this might be and what I should do?

The little lumps/bumps may be small inflammation of the meibomian glands (small glands on the edge of the eyelids) which are rubbing against the surface of the eye causing chronic inflammation. This chronic inflammation typically cause hyperpigmentation, that you see as a black spot. The bumps could be treated with anti-inflammatory eye drops and the eye must be checked as well. I would recommend a check up at your local vets.

Poor Bella! The green discharge could have originally started from an infection (conjunctivitis), allergies, or if that bump had already started to grow and cause some irritation to the eye. The bump looks like a meibomian gland cyst. The eye lids are lined with these gland which will sometimes get clogged and cause a mass looking bump. Since this is new and since the discharge has been green, I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at it to see if it is something to be concerned about and to see if she needs any antibiotics drops. I hope this helps!
