My Dachshund whimpers in pain, still active. Could it be her back?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | spayed | 6 years and 3 months old

My 6 y/o female doxine whimpers in pain for a few seconds at a time at least once every hour. She's still eating, walking, and jumping. I'm trying to pick her up as much as possible. I'm worried she has a back problem?

Since Lola is in obviously in pain I suggest you take her to a veterinarian right away for an exam. Suspecting back problems the vet will want to take x-rays in order to inspect the discs in Lola's spine. A prolapsed disc would be very painful and she would need pain medicine and rest in order to improve.
