Dog won't jump, has an orange bump between paw pads. What is it?

I noticed within the last 3-4 days that my dog is hesitant to jump onto furniture (beds, couch, chairs, etc.). Upon closer look at front left paw, I noticed something in between his pads. I describe it as a small, orange/skin colored bump. I searched around the internet and found 2 possible answers: 1. He may have stepped on something outside, or 2. He is licking his paw, causing the "injury". Could it be one of these two, or is it something else? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 8 years and 6 months old

There are other possibilities. It could be a foreign body reaction (so there is something underneath the skin and the result is a small abscess) or it could be an inflammation due to allergic reaction (less likely if the other paws are normal). A check up is needed anyway to understand the underlying problem and a buster collar may be quite useful to avoid further licking/chewing of the area.
