My cat's meow sounds scratchy and he's not eating. What's wrong?

My cat's MEOW sounds "scratchy" for the last couple of weeks, and, it is not eating as much as usual. I would appreciate your input as to what this could mean. Thanks so much in advance for your response. Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 8 years and 3 months old

Melvin could be suffering with a sore throat. It might be secondary to a virus. I would recommend a vet check up and in the meantime to offer moist food. Fish flavours are often popular amongst cat, slightly warmed up would be even better for him. If declining normal cat food, he might be interested in some tuna in water, no salt/oil.
