Kitten has breathing issues, purple belly. Can she survive without surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 9 days old

Hi I have a big question, I have a 10wk old cat that's the runt of a liter of 5 cats. Now I recently noticed that she has trouble breathing and the bottom of her belly looks purple, she eats and drinks very little and she poops and pees fine. Had X-rays done seems that her stomach is by her lung and I was told I need to take her to a specialist . What are the chances she can survive with out surgery or is their a website or someone I can reach to take care of her I wouldn't be able to pay 5,000

It sounds like Mili has a diaphragmatic hernia, and yes she does need the surgery. Already, she is having trouble breathing, and she can't eat or drink a lot because her stomach can't expand normally. There is an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. https://www.redrover.org The other options are to start a GoFund me page, or ask family and friends for help with the bill.
