My dog's aspirated mass is swollen, hard, painful. Vet says it's fine?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | neutered | 8 years and 2 months old

My dog had a mass aspirated last week. There are cancerous cells. He's scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. Today the mass area is swollen and bleeding. It was mushy and now it's hard! My dog is clearly uncomfortable and it's sensitive to the touch. I called my vet and they were not concerned. Any insight on what's going on?

I am sorry that Duke seems so uncomfortable now. It could be that the aspirate irritated the mass and caused some bleeding inside the mass. You could try to apply some ice to the area and see if it helps. If he is still uncomfortable than you need to call your vet and tell them that he needs an anti-inflammatory and/or pain medication. He shouldn't have to be uncomfortable until the surgery is done.
