My cat has hyperthyroidism. Can she stay on urinary SO food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Exotic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 11 years old

Hi My 2 Himalayan Cats are on Urinary SO wet and solid food One's latest blood test came back with her T4 at 58.9 which would be in reference to Hypothyroidism. Will be treated with Methinazole Transodermal Gel. Question is does her diet have to change? She was on this food only because the other cat had the Urinary problem. Thanks!

Ideally her diet should be changed, there is a prescription diet for hyperthyroidism which is called Y/D and very good results can be achieved with it, so I would definitely recommend switching Priscilia to it as it can reduce the amount of Methimazole used.
