Why does my canary fluff up and stand on one leg when resting?

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered

How does a Canary Bird Rest? I don't mean Sleep, at night. Just Resting, during the day. Do they sit on one leg, and fluffed up, like a Ball? I was told that if a Canary sits on one leg, to Rest, and Fluffs himself up, like a Ball, that he is getting a draft, and trying to stay warm. Is this true?

Fluffing up is a sign of either being cold or not feeling well. so you may want to look for cold drafts near the cage (and move the cage to a draft free place) and if this does not work, take him to a bird vet for an exam. If Ringo eats, drinks, and behaves normally and is lively when he is not resting, then the room temperature may just be a bit cool for him, or it may just be his way of keeping warm when resting.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In my experience, a comfortable temperature for most birds is around 70F, so it may be a little bit cold for Ringo. I recommend increasing the temperature, you can do about 68F it is more comfortable for you and keeping a close eye on him for any change in activity or behavior. I hope this helps!
