Poor Chief! If the diarrhea is burgundy colored, this is likely a sign that there is some bleeding into the intestinal tract. This could be caused by a number of different problems, including intestinal parasites, a stomach ulcer, a foreign body of some kind, or some type of serious systemic illness such as liver or kidney disease. Since it has been going on for a week now and some of these causes are potentially serious, I would recommend having Chief examined by a vet today if at all possible. Your vet can do a fecal exam as well as blood work and x-rays if needed to help determine the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.
