My dog has recurring stinky ear discharge. Is ear cleaner enough?

My beagle more mix has a stinky pussy discharge in one ear...he gets this often is just using pet ear cleaner enough to help him?

No, that isn't enough to help Charlie. If there is pus from his ears, he has an ear infection and will need to see the vet. Ear infections can be caused by yeast, bacteria, or ear mites. The vet can diagnose the cause of the ear infection, and can prescribe an appropriate treatment. It's very important to have anything here infections examined and treated promptly, as leaving them untreated can lead to hearing loss. I would take Charlie into the vet today.

    Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Based on your picture, it does look like Charlie has an ear infection. It can either be a yeast or bacterial infection, and will need topical and possibly oral medications in order to resolve. I would recommend he be evaluated by his regular veterinarian to determine what type of infection he has, and to start any medications he needs to resolve it. Good luck!

I am always treating my dog with OTC ear drops for brown discharge and/or ear mite itch every few weeks. It is normally inside her right ear. Why is she prone to this? Shes a beagle
If you have to do this every few weeks then this OTC medication is not working properly for whatever is causing the ear infection. This could be a bacterial , fungal or parasitic infection or caused by allergies. In order to find the proper medication and treatment that works for your dog's condition you should take her to a vet for an ear exam. The result of this (maybe supported by a microscopic exam of the discharge) will determine the type of infection and how to proceed. Each cause needs a different medication, and if allergies are involved then your dog may have to be fed a hypoallergenic diet.

Hello! Good day! My dog has discharge on her left ear and it smells foul. I wipe it dry everyday but it comes back the next day.
It sounds like your dog has an ear infection. It could be a bacterial, yeast, or a combination of both. She really should be examined by a vet to treat the problem. Your vet can prescribe an ear medication to clear up the infection.

Hoyle. Will not stop shaking his head and won't stop digging at his ear. I just looked in his ear and it is very gross and stinky. It is all wet inside and like a yellowish discharge . please please please help me fix my baby hoyle
Ear infections are very painful and usually need prescription medication to cure them. I recommend a veterinary exam and treatment. They will check the ear discharge to see if it’s from yeast, bacteria or ear mites. He may need medication to stop the itching in addition to ointment inside the ear. Ear infections can become chronic if not cleared up so please take him in for treatment soon. In the meantime you can clean the ear canal with a dog ear cleaner that you can purchase at PetCo and place him in a cone to he doesn’t scratch the ear which can make it worse. I'm sitting my friends dog and he keeps shaking his head and then wining when he scratches his ear, I'm pretty sure he has an ear infection cause his ear smells more and more each day... So anyway my question is there anything I can do to help this p
You can try cleaning out his ear with an ear cleaner, however if it is smelly and bothersome, it likely needs to be seen by a vet to be cleaned thoroughly and antibiotics ear ointment started. I would let the people that own him know and see if you can get into his regular vet for care.

Hi, there's something on my dog's ear like a brown discharge. Sometimes its wet, sometimes its dry. I've tried to clean his ears but it feels like he's hurting. I can't even check it. Can you please advice. As I work and no time to visit his vet.
It's probably an ear infection, often it cannot be seen from the outside. Ear infections are very common in dogs, it is usually caused by either yeast or bacterial disease. the treatment is usually simple and straightforward, you will have to take him to the vet and get the ears checked, then a prescription ear drops will be prescribed according to the infectious agent.

I have a maltese/shih tzu puppy around 7 months old and i’m concerned that he might have an ear infection. he has an odor coming from his ears and has been rubbing his head on furniture in attempts to itch i’m assuming. i don’t have the funds to take
I recommend purchasing a dog ear cleaner at your pet store and cleaning the discharge from his ears. Put some cleaner on a cotton ball and massage the fluid into the ear canal. Rub it around to loosen the debris and then wipe it out. Take a dry cotton ball to remove any cleaner left in the ear. I clean ears daily to start, then as the discharge decreases then clean only when needed. If Maxo has ear mites or a severe yeast or bacterial ear infection this will help but specific prescription medication will be more effective. When you can take him in to your veterinarian for an ear exam. They will look at the ear discharge under the microscope to determine the cause of the problem. Then they can give him the right medication. Ear medication often contains a drug to stop the itching as well as something to cure the cause of the infection and that would be more effective than just cleaning his ears. If your dog had ear mites, he would be really itchy. However, there is a possibility that Otis has a yeast or bacterial ear infection if he has discharge from the ear. Yeast infections smell a bit like beer, bacterial infections often are stinky. Both are painful. In order to diagnose an ear infection your vet will need to examine the ears with an otoscope. Unfortunately just looking at a photograph is not helpful. If your dog appears to be irritated by his ears, best schedule an appointment with your vet. for an exam.

Unfortunately no, there are no OTC medications for Daisy. It sounds like she has an ear infection, and that can be caused by ear mites, yeast, or bacteria. The only way to treat it is to have a vet diagnose the cause and then prescribe the correct treatment. I would take her into a vet today or tomorrow. Best of luck.

My dog has a white puss in his ears and it smells awful. He is a 5 year old chihuahua and since he was a puppy he has had off and on again a yellow wax almost cheese like substance in his ears as well as dry skin in them and redness and inflammation
It sounds like Pluto has an ear infection and I would recommend to take him to the veterinarian as soon as you can. Infections can be painful, can damage the ear drum, causing hearing loss and can even cause calcification of the ear canal (which is very painful). The vet will look at a sample under the microscope to determine what type of infection is present and what kind of medication is needed. Pets have have chronic ear infections may have underlying allergies or endocrine disease which causes them to be more prone to getting an infection. Talk to your vet about exploring these options.
