My dog isn't moving much. Could it be arthritis or is she in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 6 months old

My dog isn't moving as much as usual. She usually jumps up on my leg and will jump around but she's just standing there and like she can't look up.

Poor Geni! She could be suffering from arthritis, which would lead to a reluctance to move. I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can confirm if she does have arthritis, and can prescribe some pain medication for her if they feel it is appropriate it. If she does have arthritis, I recommend giving her glucosamine or chondroitin sulfate supplements. They provide the necessary nutrients for cartilage repair and function. Use of them helps relieve some of the symptoms of arthritis.
