Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Male | 11 months and 19 days old
I have a male Syrian hamster who is almost 2 years old. Yesterday we noticed he was completely unbalanced as he was swaying severely from side to side when he tried to walk and was very slow when he's usually quite lively. We took him to the vets and she said she thought he may have an infection and also he was dehydrated. She gave him an injection which she said had an antiobiotic, fluids and steroids. It's been 20 hours and no improvement. Does it usually take this long for an improvement?

These medication may take up to 24-36 hours before reaching a stable concentration in the blood stream. i would suggest to wait a bit longer before considering a re-check unless you think the signs are actually deteriorating.
