Could be either of those, although blood in the feces is relatively common in dogs (although it's not normal). Keep an eye on the feces in the next few days, if you see it again, take her to the vet to get treated, blood in the feces is usually a sign of gastrointestinal infection.

If you saw something bright red on her poop, it was probably blood - this can be caused by colitis or intestinal irritation due to something she ate, rectal polyps, or anal gland problems. If your dog is acting normal otherwise, you can try feeding a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice for the next 2-3 days to see if her stool returns to normal. If this doesn't help, or if she develops any other symptoms such as vomiting, acting lethargic, or not wanting to eat, I would recommend having her examined by a vet as she may have a more serious problem.

It is hard to tell what is causing the color. It appears that there is quite a bit of mucous, which can be caused by intestinal parasites, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, among a few other issues. There may also be some blood in there. I would recommend that you have Zia checked out by a vet so that she can get appropriate treatment. You can take a fresh (<12 hours old) stool sample with you to her appointment so the vet can evaluate it for intestinal parasites. Yes, this is definitively compatible with a foreign body ingestion. A red cloth could be definitively present. I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. Hi there! From the picture I cannot be for sure if there is blood in the stool as well, but many of the dyes used in our commercial petfoods (especially reds in kibble) can stain the feces of our pets this color as well. If Missy is not having diarrhea or other health concerns and you are feeding this type of pet food, there is a good chance that's all it is. Hope this helps!
