Why does my dog express anal glands only on my girlfriend's lap?

Dog only expresses anal glands only when sitting on girlfriends lap. It's behavioral not anything else. Help! Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

Usually, dogs express their anal glands when they are anxious or excited - so I would suspect that your dog is either nervous around your girlfriend, or really likes her and gets excited about seeing her. Having your girlfriend ignore Koi until she calms down may be helpful, or she could try dropping treats on the floor for her if you think the problem may be anxiety-related. Your girlfriend could also try putting a blanket or towel on her lap before cuddling with Koi, so that if she does express her anal glands, clean-up is much easier. If all else fails, you can talk to your vet about having her anal glands surgically removed - for some dogs who have chronic issues with expressing them at awkward times, this can be the best long-term solution to the problem.
